Over the last couple of weeks inspired divine thought has been swirling around in my head. Since I had just finished writing a book, I wasn’t feeling too motivated to do any more writing. This morning during meditation, however, the angel Gabriel came through loud and clear…it’s time to write SoulFire. Ok ok ok.
These recent elections have brought much conflict and division amongst us not only as a nation but in our own communities and families. I have had a special opportunity to be around clients and friends that strongly believe in Trump and strongly oppose Trump; strongly believe in Hilary and strongly oppose Hilary. I think most of us are in the same boat. On the night of the election I was teaching a private yoga class to a group of attorneys who all voted and passionately wanted Trump to win. After our yoga class, it’s tradition they order sushi and always insist I come and join them, which I normally do. How could you say no to sushi after all?! Plus one of the attorneys has been my client for over ten years and I truly enjoy their company. That night, however, I was not going to stay for sushi as I didn’t vote for Trump and I knew they were vehemently against Hilary. I thought I’d be the little lamb for slaughter. I decided to stay, however, my growling stomach winning over my growing apprehension. When they wanted to take the sushi in front of the TV and watch the polls unfold, I said no, setting the tone and standing my ground. I wanted to eat in peace. They agreed and we sat together. Small victory:)
In order to get through this meal however a few things had to happen in my mind and heart. I needed to remember the highest truth …that in our deepest truest essence we are all One, we are all connected, and not judge them because of their opinion. I had to remember to see past the masks, the personality, the beliefs and opinions and see their soul. After all isn’t that what yoga is about? And when we bow and say “Namaste,” that is exactly what we are declaring. If I want peace in the world it begins with peace in my heart and peace with the people all around me who I interact with. So I decided to let go of my opinions, stay open minded and listen to theirs without judgment. It actually wasn’t that bad and I even learned a few things. I stayed in my center of calm resolve and didn’t let what they thought rob me of my inner peace and enjoying my sushi.
I had no intention of writing about this experience but with Thanksgiving here I think that’s why I was being nudged by spirit to share. Soon most of us will be sitting down to enjoy a meal together, or not. Lao Tzu, the wise Chinese philosopher and author of the Tao Te Ching says:
“If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.”
“You have peace,” the old woman said, “when you make it with yourself.”
― Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven
In order to keep peace and harmony we must allow people to have their opinions. Opinions don’t make people bad or wrong, and we don’t have to agree with them. We can agree to disagree and still be happy. Ultimately, we all want the same thing: to be happy and free. It’s not easy being human now in these times. So instead of being harsh and judging let’s practice tolerance, kindness, compassion and see past the ego minds and see into a person’s soul. “Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” ~Plato Let’s try to find common ground and retreat from the battle ground.
“Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything – anger, anxiety, or possessions – we cannot be free.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
We do not know what the future will bring, what the elect president will or will not do. We can only control how we react and what type of energy we are adding to the world in the present moment. Are we adding more negativity, conflict, animosity, fear and anxiety or are we adding peace, harmony, compassion and love? We are powerful creators of our reality in every moment whether we believe it or not. Every thought is either adding to the light of the world or to the darkness, separation, fear and chaos. Be a transformer of peace and love, not fear and negativity. Stay focused on what you want and not on what you don’t want. Martin Luther King Jr. and all the great avatars said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
We are God’s highest form of creation. We are a living breathing creative “magnet” with the ability to control what we experience in our life. In order to change the outer world we need to change our inner world, and we start with the thoughts we have. Quantum physics states the basis of all creation starts with the thought and that the universe is made of nothing but waves and particles of energy that conform to our thoughts, expectations, judgments and beliefs. When you are radiating frequencies of love all around you, the negative forces will not/cannot effect you.
The difference in energy between one loving thought and a fearful thought is so enormous as to be beyond the capacity of the human imagination to easily comprehend. Even a few loving thoughts throughout the course of your day can counterbalance all of your negative thoughts. Thank the Lord! And it has been said that we have over 60,000 thoughts a day!
“In fact, a small group of people focusing intensely on the Light can transmute the disqualified thoughts and feelings of hundreds of thousands of people. With that same level of dedication, we can transmute hundreds of lifetimes worth of our own disqualified energy in a very short time. This is what the phrase “in the twinkling of an eye” is all about.” ~Patrica Cota-Robles, Who Am I? Why Am I Here
That’s why LOVE WORKS. And Love is God and God is Love. And…
It’s all God. That is what the yogis believe and all the great sacred religions and teachings. Quantum physicists would say, “it’s all energy.” Whatever word you use doesn’t matter, it’s the meaning behind the word that matters ultimately. If it’s all God then we cannot leave God out of politics -especially politics! God is in there- even in Hilary and Trump, no matter how obtuse ones’ light is, they are still a child of God and we are all connected.
“A human being is part of the whole called the ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in all its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security.” ~Albert Einstein
The dawning of the new earth is here now and whatever is not in harmony with the greatest good of all in reverence for all life is being brought up to the surface to be rectified, transmuted and purged back to the light. That’s why the “crazy” seems to be getting worse. It’s the same as having a boil under the skin, it has to come up to be purged and cut off. This election was not by happenstance. We need to keep our focus on the world we wish to inhabit and not the world we wish to get rid of. Whatever you focus your attention on, that is what you are giving life to. Be informed but don’t get inundated by the news and media. It’s mostly anxiety producing fear based proposition anyway.
Another attorney who was one of the wisest, bravest, greatest beings of all times and my inspiration, Ghandhi said,“There is no such thing as ‘Gandhism,’ and I do not want to leave any sect after me. I do not claim to have originated any new principle or doctrine. I have simply tried in my own way to apply the eternal truths to our daily life and problems…The opinions I have formed and the conclusions I have arrived at are not final. I may change them tomorrow. I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and nonviolence are as old as the hills.” And…
“When I despair I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they can seem invincible but in the end they always fall.”
Margaret Meade, the most famous American cultural anthropologist speaker and author with a holistic vision of the human species said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Change happens because of the outliers and the innovators, not the majority. We are the creators of our world and we have the power. The only battles we need to fight are the ones in our own hearts.
Her daughter, Mary Catherine Bateson followed in her foot steps. She declared that, “The family is changing, not disappearing. We have to broaden our understanding of it, look for the new metaphors.”
Yes new metaphors... We are a global family, united under the same sun on this beautiful planet earth; One sky, one heaven, one moon and one family, it just so happens we are different. Yet really, not so much. I love Margaret Meade’s quote, “Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else.” We are a global family, all brothers and sisters and sometimes we bicker and argue but in the end, we must remember our ONENESS, our UNITY, our brotherhood and our sisterhood.
Divide and conquer or unite and prevail.
“It has been said that when Buddha comes again, he will arrive not as a person but as a community. We will know that God is here on earth when we can see Him/Her in one another.” ~Everyday Grace, Marianne Williamson
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It is in giving that we receive.
The Prayer of St. Francis:
“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
